God-is-lightGod is light; in him there is no darkness at all. -1 John 1:5

Last week I started a new Bible Study that is based on 1 John 1, 2 & 3. I am already gleaning so much from it, and yet, at the same time, I feel there is so much more deep truth to learn, although it is very simple.

I have been meditating on 1 John 1:5, which says: “This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.” (NLT)

This verse brings up so many questions for me:

  • What is light, exactly?
    • Is it the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible?
    • Or is it a source of illumination?
    • Or is it understanding of a problem or mystery?
    • Or is it spiritual enlightenment of truth?
    • Or all of the above?
  • What is darkness?
    • Is it the partial or total absence of light?
    • Or is it wickedness or evil?
    • Or both
  • Why did Jesus and his apostles believe it was important that we know that God is light?
  • How is this applicable to my every day life?
  • If I am not seeing clearly, instead of blaming God for not revealing his truth, could it be that my vision is impaired (by sin or deception)?

Although I don’t know all the answers to all my questions, I know that the fact that, God is light, is a good thing. So I am praising God that His is light and that in Him is no darkness at all and I am continuing to meditate on this truth.

Here is a graphic I made to help me “hide” this truth in my heart and burn it into my memory.

I am sharing it with you and making it available to download for free for this week only.

If you are already receiving emails from me, watch for your “God is light” graphic in your inbox. If not, simply fill in the form below.
